The Mind Lab

The 19th of september was an amazing day we went to the Mind lab and learnt more about coding and scratch.

To start the day off we all woke up bright and early and had to get to school before 8:15am. Our day was great after the bus ride we quickly went into the mind lab and we met our great instructor Eros but we were also allowed to call him James.

Our first project was to build a mini controller to connect to the computers then we had to attach these small cords with clips on the end to a specific part of the controller, if we had to use the right arrow key you would attach the clip to the right arrow piece on our controllers then the other part would go to the bottom metal part which is called the earth. We were making musical notes from the controller but if you did not want the 1 sound constantly playing you could hold the metal clip not connected to the other end then you could hold it in your hand and just tap the earth button.

When all that fun was over we had to build a sunlight screen when sunlight shone on it, it would flip over and when the sun dimmed it would slowly start to return back to its original position. After Eros showed us what it looked like we had to quickly try to build it using wires that they call pin a modem and a pin table. The pins had to be plugged into specific holes and when they were plugged in the computer must be set to run the when you have finished that we had to build a around the modem or battery and try to create the sunlight screen. I partnered up with Shazana and it was fun we both worked together and since we used only a few blocks we had extra left so we used the extra part to build a cable box for the cables and machinery parts to go into and as well as that but we doubled our sunlight screen to be twice a big so we could cover more shade using our machine.

After all of the fun I stood up and said a speech to the Mind Lab demonstrators and helpers. The we thanked the KPMG workers but even though we already said thank you I would like to say thank you to the KPMG workers again because it was really fun I really appreciate them paying for us to go to the mind lab and for organizing transport I am really grateful and I appreciate them so very much, you are all such incredible people and I can’t wait to do more activities with you.

This is my piece of writing I have done and it is about my amazing trip to The Mind Lab and it is also a thank you to KPMG.

  1. Hi Jordyn I really enjoyed reading about your trip to mind lab. Your explanation of Robotics was very good. You could include an explanation of how scratch works when you were coding as I am sure a lot of people would enjoy making music with all the different sounds.
